As human beings, trusting doesn’t come naturally to us. It has to be a decision based upon trustworthy revelations. Honestly, the Almighty God of the Bible has given us more than enough trustworthy revelations to go on. But, in times of suffering and loss, we default to fear and anxiety. How can it be so easy to forget God’s promises of presence and personal care?
The Lord is the true Fountain of Living Waters (Jeremiah 17:13c). Fountains are not only beautiful to see, soothing to hear, and cleansing to the touch. But, the Fountain of Living Waters, the Lord Himself, is the calm we need in the storms of life, the bread that sustains us when dreams are delayed or dashed, and the clarity that makes sense of our difficult journeys.
Sometimes we 21st century folks know too much. Medical information, reproductive particulars, friends surrounding us with detailed stories of heartache… Knowledge can be a huge burden. These mindings can make us forget the Fountain of Living Waters Who promises His presence in the excruciating losses or the interminable waiting periods in potential or actual motherhood.
Remember to Remember. This is one key – maybe the only key. While remembering to remember the Fountain of Living Waters, it is also important to share your story with others honestly and safely, to acknowledge the challenge of trying to trust God when unfulfilled dreams of motherhood are relentless. And to recall that times of drought are fruitful if they press us closer into the Fountain Himself.
Praying today that you press into the Fountain.
Psalm 31:2 says, “Incline Your ear to me; rescue me speedily! Be a Rock of refuge for me, a strong Fortress to save me.” Deuteronomy 31:8 says, “It is the Lord Who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
